Northern beaches pupils among the best and brightest at 2018 HSC awards
Ten of the region’s brightest pupils have been awarded as the best in the state for their marks in this year’s HSC.
TEN northern beaches students have been named First In Course in an individual subject in this year’s HSC.
The students — either based or studying on the peninsula — were announced as the top or equal top in one or more of the 118 courses studied in the NSW syllabus.
Manly’s Chelsea Ann Hardiman, who graduated from Queenwood School for Girls in Mosman, said she was honoured, excited and very happy about coming equal first in Mathematics General 2 at the awards ceremony.
The 18-year-old, who welcomed the acknowledgment on her birthday, was one of 127 students awarded at the First In Course ceremony.
“Getting an award like this is such an honour,” she said.
“It just goes to show that all this hard work I’ve been putting in this year has paid off.”
Jaya Armstrong said: “I feel like I’m dreaming. I never expected to be one of the best in the state.”
Across the northern beaches, 33 students — including the 10 First In Course — placed in the 2018 Top Achievers merit list.
The merit list acknowledges the students who have achieved one of the top places and a result in the highest band possible in one or more HSC courses.
The number of top places depends on the number of students taking the course.
Thirty-five northern beaches students — including a few listed as 2018 Top Achievers — were also listed in the 2018 All-round Achievers merit list.
The all-rounders are students who have achieved results in the highest band possible for at least 10 units.
Personally congratulating students living in his area with a phone call, Education Minister and Pittwater MP Rob Stokes said he was thrilled about pupil performance this year.
“The one thing we all need to do is also be grateful for the teachers we have teaching our kids,” he said.
“I’ve seen first hand the sort of work they do and many of them go above and beyond. They should also be thanked for getting the students to where they are.”
