Police are hunting for a thief who has been stealing women’s undies from clotheslines or washing machines on Fridays.
There have been four reports of knickers and bras going missing from properties in Manly, Queenscliff and Freshwater in the last two weeks.
Three out of four of the incidents occurred on a Friday between noon and 2pm.
Police suspect there could be other victims and are urging people to come forward.
Inspector Jill Walters from Dee Why police station said they had a photo of a suspect that they believed was aged between 40 and 50 years old, of medium build, wearing beige work boots.
“It’s generally women’s underwear and lingerie, like knickers and bras, that are being taken,” she said.
“Multiple items are being taken at a time.”
Insp Walters said the underwear was going missing from clotheslines in backyards or from washing machines in unit blocks where there is a shared laundry.
She said one property in Queenscliff had been targeted twice.
“One person in Queenscliff has been targeted twice and she thinks possibly more,” Insp Walters said.
“There could be others who have not noticed missing items or haven’t bothered to report it.
“Four incidents in two weeks is unusual, but if there are more we want to know.”
Insp Walters said if people see someone stealing from a clothesline or from a property they should call Triple-0, otherwise they can report missing items via the online portal by going to police.nsw.gov.au or Crimestoppers.
