NORTHERN Beaches Mayor Michael Regan has opened up as to why Ray Brownlee was the number one choice — out of more than 100 applicants — for the council’s coveted CEO position.
Cr Regan said Mr Brownlee’s signing
“I am very genuinely pleased the councillors were really impressed with his resume and his achievements, I think he is the right person at the right time to take us to the next level, which is great,” Cr Regan said.
“We conducted an extensive and thorough recruitment process to find the right person to lead our great council into the future.
“He has an incredible breadth of experience, a real focus on customer service and delivery and is an exceptional financial manager.
“His proven track record was acknowledged in 2015 when he was awarded a Public Service Medal for outstanding public service in an executive role.”
Cr Vincent De Luca was the only person to vote against the appointment, and said he did so in opposition to the five-year term.
“This council will expire in 2020,” Cr De Luca said.
“A new council should have the option of deciding their CEO and a three-year contract would be less costly should a new council wish to terminate the CEO.
“I felt I was expected to be a rubber stamp and the decision had already been made and there was little information to support the decision, which we were only given during the meeting and shortly before hand.
“For a position of such significance and who will be earning more than the Premier and Chief Justice of NSW and any other government department leader I felt greater consideration was necessary in the interest if our ratepayers.”
