THEY might look like they are trying to sell you something but they are actually combing through a suburb near you wanting to know what it is that you love — or hate — about your patch.
Northern Beaches Council is seeking community opinion about what makes our towns and villages unique, vibrant and exciting, by having residents complete a short survey.
In collaboration with an independent research agency, Place Score, the council is conducting online and face-to-face surveys over the next month to gather information about what the community cares about most.
Last week Mayor Michael Regan wore out the boot leather to ask people what they thought about their suburb.
The survey mostly asked what residents liked about their suburb. But one resident went off script to have a lengthy conversation with the Mayor and addressed her key issues, including traffic congestion, parking issues and housing affordability.
Cr Regan welcomed the discussion, saying his council was “committed to creating ideal places where the community wants to live, connect and work”.
“Let us know in this census-type survey what you care about and value in your local centres,” he said.
“Whether it’s a walk-friendly neighbourhood, cleanliness, interaction with your neighbours or something else, we’d love to hear from you.
“A better understanding of what people care about will guide the council in planning for the future of local centres in a way that reflects the community’s values and needs.
“Community involvement is fundamental to identifying and articulating what is important, what matters and what needs improvement.”
