It’s not just women who want to have great eyebrows, but men too, according to the winner of our poll for best brow technician on the northern beaches.
Jackline Porto, of Eyebrow Symmetry, in Dee Why, was voted the peninsula’s favourite brow technician this week, after we put together a public voting poll.
Marissa Flloyd, of MK Skin + Beauty in Freshwater was the runner up in the Manly Daily poll.
Ms Porto said she sees people from the ages of 12 to 80 and an increasing number of them are men who now make up to 20 per cent of her clients.
The charismatic 43-year-old has worked in the beauty industry for 30 years having started helping out at her mother’s salon in Brazil at the age of 13.
But she has concentrated on eyebrows for 25 years, with the industry really taking off in Australia recently
Ms Porto moved to Dee Why in 2011 and set up her own salon, bringing some of the latest techniques from Brazil to the peninsula.
She said she was lucky to be in “such a fast-paced industry”and specialised in micropigmentation, microblading, feathering and threading.
There’s no waxing at Eyebrow Symmetry, just threading, which is where the hairs are removed with two pieces of cotton.
Ms Porto said she was very flattered to win best brow technician.
Her husband Gabriel Rocha said it was amazing to see the faces of her customers transformed.
“She is an artist,” he said.
“She hasn’t got a formula, but a style.
“Every face is different. She knows how to do the right eyebrow for the right face.”
He said his eyebrows are like John Howard’s, big, grey and bushy, but his wife is able to work her magic on him.
