A man became so frustrated and unhappy with his lot in life that he teed off on four expensive cars with a golf club on Sydney’s Lower North Shore.

Scott David Griffin, 35, was also so angry “with the way things were going” that he flung his belongings over a fifth floor balcony — almost hitting one innocent woman passer-by with a flying chair.

Griffin, from North Sydney, appeared in Manly Local Court on Wednesday via video link from jail where he was being held for breaching his bail conditions.

He faced four counts of damaging property for attacking the cars at North Sydney early on June 15.

Griffin was also charged with one count of common assault for almost hitting the woman with the large outdoor chair and the head of a golf club that he’d hurled from his flat.

In a police facts sheet tendered to court, arresting officers stated that at 6.20am Griffin used a golf club to smash in the boot of a BMW parked in High St, causing $5000 damage.

He then went on to lay into the front bonnet of a Tesla Model 3, causing $2000 damage, before caving in the rear windows of a Toyota Prado 4WD and a VW Golf in Clark St.

The court heard that police found the golf club near the Prado and, using DNA profiling, were able to match the club to Griffin.

When they visited his flat they found a bag of golf clubs.

On June 26, a woman saw smashed glass on the ground and looked up to see Griffin hurl an large outdoor chair from a fifth-floor balcony, which landed near her.

He then launched the head of a golf club at her, missing her by just one metre.

Officers from the Police Rescue Squad had to force their way into his unit, before Griffin could be arrested.

Griffin was also charged with one count of damage property for hurling a rock through a closed glass door at his apartment block late on June 15, because he’d locked himself out.

He pleaded guilty to all charges.

His Legal Aid solicitor told Magistrate Robyn Denes that Griffin admitted his “stupidity”.

“He told me he was frustrated, unemployed and had unresolved anger issues, combined with a few drinks,” the solicitor said.

“He was unhappy with the way things were going. He smashed things up to release anger and frustration”.

In convicting and sentencing Griffin, Ms Denes noted he had already spent 50 days in custody for breaching his bail conditions.

“Clearly he has an anger management problem … to pick up a golf club and hit some cars,” she said.

Ms Denes jailed Griffin for nine months, but said he could serve the sentence in the community under an Intensive Corrections Order supervised by parole authorities.
