A man working at a luxury Sydney beachside penthouse suffered serious hip and back injuries when scaffolding collapsed on Friday.
The man in his late 50s, the owner of a Manly Vale glazing and window business, fell several metres inside the apartment being renovated opposite the North Steyne Surf Life Saving Club at Manly.
He was standing on the scaffolding inside the fifth-floor penthouse of the shop-top apartment block, at the corner of Pine St and North Steyne, at about 11.30am.
A witness said the scaffolding gave way while the glazier was working inside the unit.
“He landed on a tiled floor,” the witness said.
“He was pretty messed up.”
A CareFlight emergency medial helicopter landed on Manly Oval before its medical team was driven to the apartment block.
Two ambulances and specialist response ambulance paramedics were officers were also called in.
The man was stabilised by the CareFlight doctor and ambulance officers before he was taken to the ground floor in an elevator.
He was taken to Royal North SHore hospital in a serious. but stable condition.
