A WORLD-class, $26 million facility designed for young people is set to open on Thursday.
The Dee Why-based PCYC Northern Beaches, on the Kingsway opposite the council’s Civic Centre, will provide an entertainment hub for the peninsula’s youngest residents, according to club manager Barry Tompkins.
The Manly Daily got a sneak peek of the facility, to be unveiled on Thursday, and fully functional by August.
The Police Citizens Youth Club will be the first of its kind on the peninsula.
“It is an awesome facility. We have a two-court indoor stadium — it is multifunctional. We can run competitions for netball, basketball, badminton, futsal and volleyball,” Mr Tompkins said.
“We have another three multipurpose rooms for activities like martial arts, yoga and pilates.”
It also offers a drop-in centre for troubled youth.
“We can run homework classes. There will be table-tennis tables, PlayStations on 65-inch TV screens,” Mr Tompkins said.
“This is providing them a safe place to go to take them off the streets. They can come in and use that space whenever they want — we will have staff available to supervise at all times.”
Council administrator Dick Persson said: “The community has made it clear that it needs and wants safe, welcoming spaces, facilities and programs for our young people, and I am extremely proud of what we have delivered.”

It is open to young people aged 12-24.
