MORE than 1000 jobs are up for grabs at the new Northern Beaches Hospital.

In total there are 1300 positions for doctors, nurses and other staff at the Frenchs Forest-based site which is due to open late 2018.

Healthscope, which is behind the project said it has started talks with current doctors at Manly and Mona Vale hospitals. It will look to contact doctors and specialists working outside the peninsula who have registered an interest, “within weeks”.

“We have had incredible interest from doctors around Australia who want to work in the Northern Beaches Hospital,” a Healthscope spokesman said.

“Although we are still a year and a half out from the opening, we will begin to recruit in the coming months.”

The new hospital is also keen to find specialists who want to lease consulting suites, where they can take private patients, as well as public ones.

No ratio for the number of private to public patients has been set yet.

After the doctors and specialists have been recruited, the process for nurses and staff at Manly and Mona Vale hospitals to transfer to the new hospital, will start in the next few months.

More staff than currently work at the local hospitals are needed, so, additional recruitment will begin in 2018.

Top obstetrician and gynaecologist, Dr Paul Fowler, who has worked at Manly and Mona Vale hospitals and delivers at North Shore Private, The Royal North Shore Hospital and The Mater, said the selection process was unclear and of concern for those keen to be involved.

“We are still up in the air with the staffing,” he said.

“No one knows the selection process. The hospital is ahead of schedule but in terms of finer details we still don’t know.”

Dr Fowler, who has an office in Manly, said he would love to work at the new hospital. He is selling his Dee Why home (see our real estate section) but is committing to buying on the beaches again.

A spokesman for Healthscope said doctors can register an interest by emailing doctors@northern beacheshospital.com.au with their full name, mobile number and speciality.

When the recruitment process starts, they will automatically receive information.
