Four leadership appointments have been announced at Northern Beaches Hospital, but there’s still no news of the new CEO.
It follows a series of high profile departures since the hospital opened in October, including the CEO Deborah Latta, Medical Director Louise Messara and Head of Anaesthetics Alistair Boyce, who stepped down from that title.
Two senior anaesthetists have also resigned.
This week it was announced that the Director of Nursing Moran Wasson, who Healthscope said was “taking a break after a long and distinguished nursing career” was also leaving.
She will be replaced by Fiona Allsop, starting July 22.
Ms Allsop has previously worked at Mona Vale Hospital and is currently Executive Director of Nursing Services at the Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Services.
Jacinta Fitzpatrick is the current Deputy Director of Nursing, but a second deputy role has been created and will be filled by Vanessa Tran.
Ms Tran will start on July 7. She has previously worked at Joondalup Health Campus in Western Australia.
Paul Darcy, currently the interim Chief Operation Officer, has been appointed COO effective immediately.
He was previously the General Manager of Prince of Wales Private Hospital and has significant experience in paediatrics and the public/private health system.
Mr Darcy’s role was created after the hospital opened and he has been the interim COO for several months. He also supports the CEO. Currently, Steve Gameren, state manager of Healthscope NSW, is standing in as CEO.
It is expected that the new CEO will be announced shortly.
In another new appointment Jane Street will also join Northern Beaches Hospital as General Manager, Human Resources.
Mr Gameren said the latest appointments will play major roles in delivering quality clinical outcomes and executing the hospital’s strategy.
“We are delighted to have four outstanding individuals in their fields who have impressive public and private experience to join our team,” Mr Gameren said.
Labor’s Shadow Health Minister Walt Secord behind the new parliamentary inquiry into Northern Beaches Hospital, said Ms Wasson’s departure was one of six senior people to have stepped down since October.
A hospital source told the Manly Daily this week that Ms Wasson’s exit was very sudden and “everybody was wondering what happened”.
The source added that many disagreed with Health Minister Brad Hazzard’s comments last week that staff were devastated about an inquiry into the running and management of the hospital saying some were in fact “delighted”.
The first full set of statistics published by the Bureau of Health Information last week found in the last quarter Northern Beaches Hospital was performing poorly in terms of treatment times.
