A man, 18, accused of assaulting a northern beaches’ woman twice in a month and allegedly telling police “I hit her xxxxx hard, eh”, has been refused bail by Manly Local Court.

Robert Edward James Mount, of Harrington Park in southwest Sydney, allegedly punched the woman several times in the head during an argument after a night out in Manly on October 4.

The court heard the woman, 18, was left bleeding from her mouth and the left side of her face after being allegedly punched to the floor at her Narraweena home at about 5am.

Police will allege that Mr Mount then hit her twice more, with the blows landing on her face and arms before she managed to flee to a neighbour’s home.

Mr Mount was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm (domestic violence) and one count of contravening an apprehended violence order.

In a facts sheet tendered to court police alleged that Mr Mount and the woman had been out to dinner in Manly and began arguing at about 1am on October 4, while on a bus to Narraweena.

He later invited her to “come on then, hit me then” before she slapped him lightly with an open hand, police alleged.

Police alleged he said: “Keep going and I’m gonna have to xxxxxx hit ya” before he allegedly punched her in the face with a closed fist.

In an interview with police Mr Mount allegedly said: “I hit her xxxxx hard eh”.

Mr Mount appeared in Manly Local Court in October and was granted bail with the condition that he not enter the northern beaches or contact the alleged victim.

Police allege that on Tuesday night, November 2, he was at the woman’s Narraweena home and assaulted her after she told him she wanted to end their relationship.

In the facts sheet police alleged that he called her a “mutt” and a “dog” before she called a friend who then contacted police.

As police knocked on the door Mr Mount allegedly placed one hand on the back of her head and the other over her mouth “rendering the victim unable to breathe” for about 10 seconds.” She complained of face soreness to police.

He was subsequently charged with common assault and contravening an AVO.

In court on Wednesday police prosecutor Adrian Walsh opposed Mr Mount getting bail.

Sgt Walsh said there were concerns for the safety of the alleged victim if Mr Mount was released and that he may interfere with witnesses.

Mount’s Legal Aid solicitor said Mount denied the alleged November 2 assault.

Magistrate Margaret McGlynn refused bail and adjourned the matter to Manly court on November 17 for mention.
