A Sydney tradie is behind bars after allegedly leading police on three high-speed pursuits in as many weeks.

“I really gave you some chances … and you blew it,” magistrate Lisa Stapleton told Narraweena man Nebojsa Bubalo, 35, as she refused bail on Wednesday.

Manly Local Court heard Bubalo allegedly drove so dangerously cops had to call off the most recent chase across the northern beaches and lower north shore.

Police allege the chase covered several suburbs, including Forestville, Cromer and Narraweena, and began with the unemployed carpenter speeding off in Artarmon about 2.15pm on Tuesday.

It ultimately had to be terminated at Seaforth because Bubalo was allegedly speeding on the wrong side of Frenchs Forest Rd.

Bubalo also allegedly attempted to outrun police in Northmead, near Parramatta, on October 7, and at Willoughby last Sunday.

The court heard that on each occasion, Bubalo was allegedly driving on a suspended licence.

During a successful detention application brought by police on Wednesday, Ms Stapleton was also told that Bubalo being behind the wheel of a car constituted a breach of bail conditions she had imposed during a previous appearance in early October.

The court heard Bubalo had long been addicted to methamphetamine — colloquially known as “ice” — and that he had allegedly been found in possession of the prohibited drug when he was arrested two hours after Tuesday’s chase.

He has also been accused of driving off from the Shell service station at Cromer without paying for petrol on October 18.

It is further alleged that, after being arrested for driving while suspended in North Narrabeen on October 15, he refused to give a sample of his blood and urine for drug testing at Northern Beaches Hospital.

He is said to have told police he was afraid of needles and that he was unable to urinate while officers were present.

Bubalo is charged with three counts each of not stopping and driving dangerously during a police pursuit, driving while suspended, possessing a prohibited drug and failing to disclose the identity of a driver or passenger.

He also faces single charges of dishonestly obtaining property by deception, driving through a red light, refusing to submit to a blood sample, refusing to provide a urine sample, and using unauthorised number plates.

In police documents tendered to the court, officers allege Bubalo showed “no regard for his bail conditions or the welfare of members of the public on public roads”.

Bubalo’s Legal Aid solicitor told the court on Wednesday that her client was suffering from anxiety and depression, and he was keen to enter a drug rehabilitation program.

But Ms Stapleton refused bail, saying Bubalo had allegedly breached previous conditions “over and over”.

“He was on the wrong side of Frenchs Forest Rd at Seaforth,” she said.

“It must have been terrifying.”

Bubalo, who is yet to enter pleas, is due back in court next month.
