THE northern beaches is the home of activewear — so make it recycled and you’re on to a winner.
Slumber Squad’s range is made from recycled bottles and features activewear and swimwear, which has already proved a hit in South America.
Designer Nicolette Serfozo, 27, from Narrabeen, now aims to raise $8000 via Kickstarter to fund her newest collection, Mermaid Galaxy.
She has sourced a Chinese manufacturer specialising in converting plastic bottles into polyester yarn and custom fabric and is looking at having samples created for a swimwear collection created from Econyl, a nylon fabric made from recycled plastic waste retrieved from the ocean.
“I hope to transform it into a 100% recycled eco-friendly brand that is also affordable and seriously on-trend,” she said.
Serfozo is a finalist in the Foundation of Young Australians Young Social Pioneer competition’s Environment Stream, and is in the running to win $10,000 in funding.
