NAPLAN results 2018: Best performing secondary schools on the northern beaches
The 2018 NAPLAN results have been revealed and here’s our list of how northern beaches secondary schools ranked from 1 to 21.

Manly’s public selective school has won the number one spot again for best performing secondary school on the northern beaches, according to the Manly Daily’s analysis of the latest NAPLAN results.
The Manly Daily looked at the combined Year 7 and Year 9 results for reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy to determine how schools ranked overall.
The tests were taken in 2018, but the full results have only just been released.
Northern Beaches Secondary College Manly Selective was first, with independent school St Luke’s Grammar second, followed by Northern Beaches Secondary College Balgowlah Boys.
St Luke’s Grammar School Principal Jann Robinson said they were a comprehensive intake school and had students with a wide range academic abilities.
She said they saw good HSC results last year, along with impressive NAPLAN results and put their success down to a new learning framework which empowered students.
“We have good strategies on how to approach stuff they have not come across before,” Ms Robinson said.
Meanwhile, Balgowlah Boys’ Principal Paul Sheather said it was reassuring to see consistently good NAPLAN results considering how quickly the school had expanded.
“We have doubled in size in the last eight years,” he said. “We now have 1060 pupils.
“It is gratifying to see that despite larger numbers, larger class sizes and new teachers our formula still works.”
He said the improvement of students from Year 7 to Year 9 was impressive.
He said the question as to whether the school could maintain its good results with larger numbers was one that people in the community were keen to know.
Fellow Northern Beaches Secondary College Mackellar Girls was fourth with independent school Pittwater House in fifth place.
