Mother in Manly Local Court charged over Newport baby death

A CASE involving a woman charged after the body of her newborn baby was allegedly discovered under a bathroom sink was before a Sydney Local Court today but has been adjourned because a post mortem report is still outstanding.

A CASE involving a northern beaches woman charged after the body of her newborn baby was allegedly discovered under a bathroom sink was before Manly Local Court on Wednesday.

Police have alleged the woman, 22, concealed the body in her home in Newport between the afternoon of October 17 and the evening of October 20 in 2017.

Detectives were alerted to the birth after the woman, whose name cannot be published for legal reasons, sought treatment at Mona Vale Hospital.

On May 24 this year the woman was arrested and charged with mother acting alone concealing the birth of a child, concealing body of a child.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions asked Deputy Registrar Brian Donnelly if the matter could be adjourned for another month because a post mortem report was still outstanding.

The woman was not required to appear on Wednesday.

Mr Donnelly adjourned the matter to Manly Local Court on October 3. The woman’s bail was continued.

No plea has yet been entered.
