More than 200 confirmed coronavirus cases in Northern Sydney Local Health District

More than 200 people in northern Sydney have been confirmed as having the coronavirus, with three clusters identified. It comes as statistics reveal more tests are being done in the local authority than any other in NSW.

More than 200 people in the northern Sydney area have tested posted for the coronavirus, as the local health authority confirms 17 people have been hospitalised.

NSW Health has revealed 12,550 tests have been performed with 209 people confirmed as having the virus in the North Sydney Local Health District, which covers the northern beaches Ryde, Hornsby, Mosman, Lane Cove and Ku-ring-gai.

That equates to 21.86 cases per 100,000 residents.

Up until March 24 there were 1312.87 tests per 100,000 residents done in the district, higher than any other local heath authority in NSW.

A spokesman for NSLHD said that high figure could be because the district was more health aware than other areas.

He said that 17 people were hospitalised with COVID-19 across Northern Beaches Hospital and Royal North Shore, Hornsby and Ryde hospitals.

Further information that has just been released from NSW Health reveals that at least one person on the northern beaches has COVID-19 that was locally acquired with the contact not identified.

Ryde and Ku-ring-gai also had at least one locally acquired case, with the contact not identified, while Hornsby had five to nine cases.

Among the clusters identified across NSW, two are in Ryde and one is in Hornsby.

NSW Health has also released figures for each local government area:

Lane Cove: 19

Willoughby: 13

North Sydney: 20

Mosman: 23

Ku-ring-gai: 28

Hornsby: 31

Ryde: 33

Northern Beaches: 68

It comes as Northern Beaches Hospital this week allowed drive-through COVID-19 testing at its temporary clinic and free parking at the rear.
