A man was arrested and two people left with serious head injuries after a head-on road collision involving a boat on Sydney’s northern beaches.
The half-cabin cruiser was on the back of a trailer being towed by a sedan when it struck an oncoming ute on Mona Vale Rd at Ingleside on Sunday.
Police were told the trailer was “fishtailing” before it collided with the Mitsubishi Triton, heading east, near the intersection with Addison Rd, about 12.40pm.
The ute’s driver, a 53-year-old man, was trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle. It took about 30 minutes for emergency services officers to free him.
NSW Ambulance confirmed the man suffered a serious laceration to his head.
The woman also received a head wound and was stabilised for possible neck and spinal injuries before she was helped from the ute.
An emergency medical team from the NSW Ambulance Toll helicopter, which landed a Terrey Hills Oval, assisted at the crash site.
An intensive care ambulance took the man to the Royal North Shore Hospital. The woman was also driven by ambulance to the same hospital.
A hospital spokesman said on Monday morning both patients were in a stable condition.
Northern Beaches police confirmed on Monday that a man, 34, from Goulburn, the driver of the sedan towing the boat, was arrested and taken to Manly police station for questioning.
A spokesman said he was released on Sunday evening without charges being laid, but further inquiries were being made.
Mona Vale Rd was partially reopened to traffic at 6.30pm.
Police are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage. They are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
