A ute driver is facing a string of serious charges over a head-on crash on the northern beaches that left an elderly couple trapped in their car before they were rushed to hospital with multiple injuries.
Christopher Garth McKewin, 45, from the Central Coast, was allegedly four rimes over the legal alcohol limit when the ute he was driving collided with a VW hatchback.
Andrey and Regina Reznikov, both aged 70, were trapped in their car for close to an hour after the crash on Mona Vale Rd at Ingleside on August 10 last year.
The collision, at about 2.15pm, occurred just west of the intersection with Tumberra St.
Specialist Fire and Rescue NSW officers from Narrabeen had to cut the couple from the wreckage of their car before they were taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious condition.
Mr McKewin of Budgewoi, had minor injuries. Mona Vale road was closed for about four hours.
After an investigation by the NSW Police Crash Investigation Unit, he is now before Manly Local Court.
He is facing two counts of cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of a motor vehicle and one count each of high range drink driving and refuse or fail a breath test.
After a blood test, Mr McKewin’s alcohol reading was recorded at 0.269, according to documents tendered to court.
Mr McKewin was listed to appear at Manly court on Thursday to enter pleas to all charges.
But the court was told he was not present because some details of the collision were still being reviewed.
Magistrate Robyn Denes adjourned the matters to Manly Court on June 13.
