The death of a man who fell 16m from a construction site on to a footpath in the Mona Vale CBD is being investigated by authorities.
Witnesses say the man, aged in his 50s, fell from scaffolding around a “shop top” apartment block being built near the corner of Bungan and Waratah streets.
Emergency services were called just after 11.30am on Thursday by members of the public who say the man fell from the top floor of the construction site next to the Pacific Plaza arcade.
It is understood he crashed through tree branches before hitting the footpath.
Passers-by rushed to his aid and began CPR, but he died before emergency services arrived.
Northern Beaches Police taped off the site before establishing a crime scene.
Police will be preparing a report for the coroner.
Officials from SafeWork NSW began their investigation into the incident yesterday and were understood to be revisiting the site again on Friday to continue to take witness statements.
