A northern beaches state MP has launched a social media campaign encouraging people to get vaccinated by reminding them of what life will be like when everyone has had their Covid jab.
James Griffin, Liberal Member for Manly, commissioned Dave Homer, an award-winning album cover illustrator, to create vintage style travel posters depicting iconic northern beaches scenes.
The posters have the slogans: “Northern Beaches, Get back to what we love …”
and “Don’t wait, vaccinate”.
The artist has also created retro artwork with the phrases; “For Those That You Love, Get Vaccinated”, “Let’s Get Vaxxed” and “Get Vaccinated!”
The artwork has been designed for Facebook and Instagram, with options to print out A3 versions to stick up in windows.
“These are beautiful pieces of artwork with a powerful message,” Mr Griffin said.
“It’s about empowering people to share and communicate the vaccination message among their network of friends.
“People delivering the message to one another is more powerful than the government doing it.
“It taps into a sense of common purpose.
“It’s also about doing it for our local businesses.
“The northern beaches is a competitive place and we can be first on the vaccination leaderboard.”
Mr Griffin, who is NSW Secretary for Health, has been working hard to help small businesses impacted by Covid.
He said other nations where people have been vaccinated are now opening up and “vaccinated people are living their lives as they did before”.
“Businesses are reopening and hiring, economic growth is on the rebound, and people can see their loved ones again,” he said.
“The incentives are clear, and so is the message. Do it now — for yourself, the people you care about, for your neighbourhood, and for the northern beaches.”
Mr Griffin said this was a good time to launch the campaign because there will be a significant improvement in vaccine accessibility.
Pharmacies will start administering vaccinations in addition to state government facilities commencing vaccination for any consenting adult over 18. These options are in addition to the GP network.
“The addition of pharmacies, in parallel to an increase in vaccination supply, and improvement in the online booking system presents a moment in time to ramp up communications around the importance of, and how to, get vaccinated,” he said.
Along with the images, he hopes people will share information on how to get vaccinated.
He said there are four ways you can get a jab, by calling your GP, going to a local pharmacy, booking through the Federal Government Vaccine Eligibility Checker or by calling Health Link on 1800 571 155.
