A teenager was threatened with violence to withdraw money from an ATM during an alleged daytime robbery at a popular Sydney beach.
The alleged victim, a 15-year-old boy, and his mate, also 15 were approached by two older teens on Manly Beach on Tuesday afternoon.
Police allege the older teenagers, males aged 16 and 17 — who do not live on the northern beaches — threatened to hurt the boys and forced them to hand over a peaked cap and a gift card at about 3pm.
One of the 15-year-olds was then escorted to an ATM at Manly by the 17-year-old male where he withdrew an amount of cash and handed it over to the alleged robber, a spokesman for the Northern Beaches Police Area Command said.
Police allege while this was happening, the other alleged thief guarded the second boy on the beach.
The alleged victims called police.
The police spokesman said uniformed officers from Manly police station, who had a description of the alleged thieves, arrested them near Manly Beach a short time later.
Police said the older teen was charged with robbery in company and detain with intent to obtain advantage.
The younger teen boy was charged with robbery in company.
They were both refused bail and were scheduled to appear at Surry Hills Children’s Court on Wednesday.
