A man who was sniffed out by a police drug dog before going into a pub to sell illegal drugs to his mates, was sentenced in Manly Local Court on Wednesday.
French national Louis Bernard Germain, 23, admitted he wanted to sell ecstasy capsules and LSD to friends at the Greenwood Hotel at North Sydney.
But the construction worker, who lives in Bondi, was pulled out of the queue to get into the popular venue in September for a dance party after he was flagged by the sniffer dog.
Germain pleaded guilty to one count of supplying prohibited drugs and two counts of possess prohibited drugs.
A police facts sheet tendered to court said that police officers were watching Germain approach the pub before a police dog “flagged him” down.
Germain initially denied he was in possession of any illegal drugs before he pulled two clear resealable bags from his pockets.
The facts sheet said the bags contained a number of clear capsules and another substance “which looked like small pieces of paper, one with a yellow ghost” printed on it.
When officers asked what he planned to do with the drugs, Germain said: “It was for my friends and maybe I would sell some to other people.”
Germain told police he planned to sell the MDMA, or ecstasy capsules, for $20 each.
On Tuesday magistrate Mark Richardson heard that Germain sold drugs to his friends for “financial gain”.
“There is nothing to indicate my client is involved in sophisticated drug supply,” his solicitor said.
On the supply drugs charge, Magistrate Mark Richardson placed Germain on a two-year Community Corrections Order to be of good behaviour and to complete 150 hours of community service.
Mr Richardson also fined Germain $600 for each of the two possess prohibited drugs charges.
