A man has died hours after he was found unconcious in the middle of a Sydney road.
The man, 73, had critical head injuries when he was found by a passer-by in Victor Rd at Brookvale just before 2.30am.
He was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition but died around 5:30pm on Tuesday.
Police said the man, a sales representative for a shoe company, had been at the nearby Manly Leagues Club for several hours before he was found.
Initial inquiries reveal the man was injured after falling and striking his head on the roadway.
The man, who lives in Victoria, had been staying at the TraveLodge hotel in Victor Rd.
A Northern Beaches Police Area Command spokesman said while a crime scene had been set up, there was no indication that the man was assaulted or had been struck by a vehicle.
“But police do want to talk to any people who may have seen the man leave the leagues club and walk to Victor Rd. He left the club at about 1.46am,” the spokesman said.
“We particularly want to speak with the driver and occupants of a small red or orange-coloured hatchback that was seen on CCTV driving around the man, around 2.07am, while he was walking in the middle of Victor Rd.”
Police said the injured man, who had been playing poker machines at the club, was found with cash in his pocket.
He was discovered by the driver of a garbage collection truck that had just visited the nearby Crystal Car Wash at the intersection of Victor and Pittwater roads.
“The truck driver, along with another motorist, assisted the injured man while an ambulance was on its way,” the police spokesman said.
