A shirtless drink-driving hoon who sped away from police and crashed into a parked car after they saw him doing a “dangerous and stupid” burnout was granted bail at Manly Local Court on Monday.
Lincoln Mobbs, 18, was arrested after he was cornered in the backyard of a house in Wheeler Heights after making a desperate dash to escape the scene of the Sunday night crash in Kendal Cres.
Mobbs, of Baulkham Hills, who was only wearing a pair of shorts at the time, was being chased by a resident and police when he used his shoulder to crash through a wooden side gate of the property.
He ended up with an injured wrist as well as a number of scratches and cuts to his face, neck, shoulders and chest.
Mobbs pleaded guilty to one count each of operate vehicle so driving wheels undergo loss of traction; not stop vehicle when directed to do so; no P plates; mid-range drink driving; not give particulars to other driver; destroy or damage property and; enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.
In a facts sheet tendered to court police reported they had seen Mobbs, at about 8.20pm, loudly revving the engine of his car in Veterans Pde at Wheeler Heights.
Police lost sight of Mobbs’ car as they did a U-turn to catch up to him. A short time later they saw Mobbs behind the wheel of the car doing a 10-second “burnout” in Rose Ave.
The officers walked over to Mobbs’ car, but when they were about two metres away, he slowly drove away.
Police got pack in their car and turned on their lights and sirens and followed him into Berith St before Mobbs accelerated away and the police again lost sight of the vehicle.
But moments later Mobbs crashed into, and badly damaged, a parked Subaru Forester in Kendal Cres.
Mobbs jumped from his car and ran north along Kendal Cres, being chased by the resident and police. He then turned right into a private property and burst through the wooden side gate into the backyard.
“The accused hit the fence with such force that he knocked the gate off its hinges,” the police reported.
Mobbs then ran through the backyard but was quickly cornered by police and arrested.
He blew 0.131 at Manly police station.
Police prosecutor Scott Williams opposed Mobbs being released on bail due to the seriousness of the charges and the possibility he might not turn up for court.
“Mr Mobbs is lucky to still be alive this morning,” Sgt Williams said.
“It was highly dangerous and stupid behaviour that put the community at risk.”
Mobbs’ Legal Aid solicitor Fiona Hadlington said he had “little memory” of the incidents, but acknowledged “how stupid I had been”.
Magistrate Michelle Goodwin granted Mobbs strict conditional bail, based on his age. He is on a curfew keeping him indoors between 9pm and 5am.
He will be sentenced in Manly Local Court on February 3.
