Sydney girl awaits emergency flight back to Australia after being pulled unconscious from a Bali pool

THREE-year-old Sydney girl Kawa Sweeney is awaiting an emergency flight back to Australia after being pulled unconscious from a Bali pool, with supporters raising $70k for the girl.

A THREE-year-old Sydney girl is being flown back to Australia after being pulled unconscious from a swimming pool in Bali.

Kawa Sweeney was on a combined holiday and work trip with her parents, who run a popular homewares brand, when she was found unconscious in a pool, believed to be at a villa, on Sunday morning.

Her mum Dee Tang, 35, runs northern beaches homewares store, Kawaiian Love Shack and her dad, Desmond Sweeney is a successful artist working for pubs including those owned by Justin Hemmes.

An Instagram campaign on the Kawaiian Lion page has raised nearly $70,000 in less than 24 hours and it’s hoped Kawa will be flown to Perth today.

According to Mrs Tang’s sister, Christine Walsh, the Newport family believed they had travel insurance via Mrs Tang’s credit card — but they aren’t covered.

Mrs Walsh said the little girl is stable, but the family has been advised to get her back to Australia as soon as possible.

“Basically she came out of the pool unconscious,” she said.

“Dee had been chatting to a surgeon from Cottesloe in Perth — he was there and he resuscitated for 45 minutes.

“Apparently there was another nurse or doctor there as well.

“This doctor was with the ambulance and when they got to the hospital he was telling them what to do.

“The last update she was stable and her heart had got to a rhythm which was good.”

Mrs Walsh said the air ambulance company told the family to raise $42,5000 to charter the plane to fly them to Perth, where Mrs Tang is originally from, and closer to Bali than Sydney, and suggested they use social media.

The family shared a photo of Kawa on their Go Fund me page as she awaits the flight to Perth.

Friend Pearl Tan, from New Zealand, asked the brand’s 22,000 Instagram followers for help and the money started pouring in.

The post, also shared on Facebook, said: “PLEASE DONATE! Today my dear friends little 3 year old girl was in a drowning accident in Bali.

“They were due to arrive home to Newport tomorrow but now we don’t know when that will be. “Little Kawa is in a coma and needs to be flown to Perth to be treated.

“They need $42,000 upfront to get her there so a Go Fund Me page has been created!”

Mrs Walsh, a teacher, said any extra cash once the flight plus Bali hospital fees have been paid, will go to charity,

“It is so amazing. We are overwhelmed by gratitude. It could be anybody’s child. It’s really amazing,” she said.

“We’re really fortunate with her followers. I’m guessing most of it is from Instagram.”

Mrs Walsh described Kawa as “a happy little girl.”

“She’s beautiful, really feisty and spirited,” she said.

Kawa’s mum has arrived in Perth with other daughter, Rafa, one, but was too upset to talk.

Friend Natalia Feehan, who runs Arcade Vintage in Newport has known the family for years.

“They’re such a lovely family, so kind,” she said.

”Her little girls were always in the shop. I think it’s touched a lot of people’s hearts.

“I spoke to her Saturday as I borrowed her house to do a photo shoot. They said they’d be home on Monday morning.”

Mrs Tang worked at clothing brand One Teaspoon before freelancing in visual merchandising.

She said the Kawaiian Lion brand is “non mass produced and dude friendly,” and the name stems from her Chinese name, Kawai.

She has stockists as far afield as Hawaii and California.

Mr Sweeney‘s company 8footwalls has seen him create artworks for pub group Merivale including at The Newport and Coogee Pavilion.
