CLUB tycoon Justin Hemmes has bought another northern beaches pub.

The businessman has snapped up beachside venue, The Collaroy Hotel, taking his northern beaches venues to three.

Hemmes signed the $21m deal on Friday- triple what the current owners boutgh it for seven years ago.

And he said his vision for the hotel will be based on his successful Eastern Suburbs venue, the Coogee Pavilion. He revamped the old Coogee Palace to make it a trendy but family-friendly hotspot.

He said the location, right on Pittwater Road at the beach was the big selling point.

“I’ve got such a good feeling about this one, it’s got great bones, a fantastic location.

“It’s such a beautiful spot and it’s not too far from The Newport. We are really enjoying the northern beaches, we’re finding our feet but loving it.”

Hemmes already runs The Newport, which he bought two years ago, and Papi Chulo at Manly Wharf.

Hemmes said he won’t do a major revamp on the hotel, but will give it a makeover.

He said unlike the Collaroy Beach Club next door, the building wasn’t damaged in the Sydney storm last June.

He wants to make it family friendly, but welcoming for all.

“A few of my friends have family in that area, I listened to them. They want something local and family friendly, not dissimilar to what we’ve done at Coogee,” he said.

“We want it to be a place families and locals go for a meal a couple of nights a week and also a special place to take visiting family and friends. Also if you’re at the beach you can pop in, or take a date — a little bit of something for everyone, but really accessible.

“I think we’ve just got to make the most of that incredible view — that gun barrel view up the beach.”

Hemmes said he’ll officially take over in six weeks.

However, like at The Newport, staff will have to reapply for jobs.

“We interview everyone and hopefully of course there’s going to be more jobs available,” he said.

Meanwhile, former party boy Hemmes, who was cradling daughter Alexa, 19 months as he revealed the news, talked about his second daughter.

Partner Kate Fowler gave birth to Saachi at the end of June, and he said the new arrival is doing well.

“It’s pretty good — there’s not much I can do at night — she’s wanting mamma not dad. She’s being pretty good.”

He said the unusual name was Fowler’s idea saying; “Kate mentioned it — and I liked it.”

He added his partner was “unbelievable,” considering she’s just had a baby six weeks ago and said Alexa was very pleased with her new little sister.

“She loves her — lot of kisses, kisses on the forehead, on the face, she’s really gentle with her,” he said.

Meanwhile Hemmes said the next phase of The Newport, his revamp of the old Newport Arms which he bought for $50m should open in January or February.

He’s working on a new restaurant and cocktail bar in the old round room which will specialise in seafood.

He sometimes travels by seaplane from his home in Vaucluse to the venue.

Owners, Public House Management Group confirmed the deal - which has seen them triple their money on the venue.

Boss Mitchell Waugh and his investors bought the then Surf Rock Hotel at a receivership auction in 2010 for $7.5 million.

Waugh said: “It’s a great hotel and I am sad to be exiting what has been such a passion project.”

HISTORY

The Hotel is in the historic Arlington Amusement Hall building, built around 1915 for Christina Williamson by her husband, Herbert.

Shops were also in the building, including a draper, chemist and stationer, and it was also a cinema.

It later became the beaches’ first wine bar, called 1066, and was later the Surf Rock Hotel.

It became The Collaroy in 2014 after a rebrand by owners Public House Management Group run by Mitchell Waugh.

The Collaroy Beach Club, at the other end of the building from The Collaroy Hotel, lost a balcony in the Sydney Storms last June.
