This year’s Bachelor is northern beaches born and bred.
Jimmy Nicholson, 31, and a Jetstar pilot, said he had an idyllic childhood growing up in the Palm Beach area.
The former Avalon Public and Mona Vale Public schoolboy said he spent much of his childhood on the beach or in a tinny on Pittwater.
Following his secondary education at Riverview, in Lane Cove, he pursued his dream of becoming a pilot.
He is currently living in Bronte, to be near the airport for his work, but his family are still based on the northern beaches and one day he wants to move back to have children.
He said his parents Noel and Susan Nicholson, who are behind the Ray White real estate agency in Palm Beach, are local ‘socialites’ and know everyone, while his sister Tahnee is a psychologist living in Balgowlah with her husband and son.
“I get back there every couple of weeks when there isn’t a lockdown,” he said.
“I’ll walk with mum and dad and the dog at Palm Beach.
“They get stopped all the time. They’re like socialites up there, they know everyone.”
He said his family supported his very public attempt to try and find love on the reality TV show.
“My mum knew I was serious about finding someone,” Mr Nicholson said.
“She said they always get great girls on the show and have a lot of success.”
The producers spent quite a bit of time filming on the northern beaches because Mr Nicholson wanted to show the girls where he came from.
His family also get a bit of airtime.
“I wanted to show the girls a part of me and growing up on the northern beaches was a massive part of my life,” he said.
“That’s where all my memories are from.
“So if you’re local to the beaches expect to see a lot of familiar places.”
Mr Nicholson said it was nerve wracking dating 23 women at once, as well as getting used to all the cameras.
While, the first episode airs next week, the filming has wrapped up and Mr Nicholson can confirm he has found love on the show.
“I’ve met an amazing girl out of it,” he said.
“She’s incredible and makes it all worth it.”
The first episode of the new series starts on July 21, on Channel 10.
