A man accused of pushing a shopping trolley — with his mate sitting in it — into a pack of 40 Sydney cyclists out on an early morning ride is trying to have some of the charges against him dropped.

Two riders came off their bikes and were injured and two bicycles — one valued at $3000 — were badly damaged.

Mr Maartensz has pleaded guilty in Manly Local Court to four charges but is negotiating with police to have three other charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentionally throw object at vehicle, dropped or downgraded.

On Wednesday the Court Registrar adjourned the matter to July 10 to allow Mr Maartensz’s solicitor to make representations to investigating police.

Documents tendered to court named the affected cyclists as Peter Moore and Radek Valenta.

Mr Maartensz was told by the Registrar that he must enter a plea on the three charges at his next court appearance.
