Health authorities have issued a warning after three staff from a pizza store on the northern beaches tested positive to COVID-19.

In the latest NSW Health alert it stated that three members of staff from I Love Pizza at Mona Vale have the disease.

It warned customers who ate pizza from the store last week should be aware they could be at risk of the coronavirus.

“While all close contacts have been confirmed and contacted and the risk is low, all customers who ate pizza from the store between March 20 and March 28 should monitor for symptoms of COVID-19,” a statement from NSW Health said.

On the store’s website it said it was closed, but there was no warning about the risk of COVID-19 to staff members.

Instead it stated: “Unfortunately due to family circumstances we are closed until 13/4/2020.”

There was no answer when the Manly Daily tried to call.

The latest figures for the northern beaches show that as of 8pm, March 31, there have been 118 cases of COVID-19, 18 of which were acquired locally from an unknown source.

The northern beaches Local Government Area is the second highest in the state, after Waverley.

Epidemiologist Associate Professor Margo Barr, from the University of NSW said the northern beaches LGA does have higher numbers of cases than most other areas, but the majority were from overseas returnees or those who have been in contact with those who have been overseas.

“The contact not identified (possibly locally acquired) is still around 10-19 cases so most are either overseas acquired or locally acquired linked to a known case,” she said.

“Of course this is all has the potential to change rapidly, so people still need to be vigilant re-isolation, hand washing and social distancing.”

Across the states the figure went up by 150, taking the number diagnosed with the disease in NSW to 2,182.

Northern Beaches Hospital’s lead medic in charge of the COVID-19 response team Dr Peter Thomas today said the facility’s pandemic plan was “watertight” and “scalable”.
