POP star Guy Sebastian interrupted classes at Harbord Public School to visit a special little girl.
Seven-year-old Mia Murchison, from Freshwater, has Batten disease, a rare genetic condition. She can’t walk, talk, see or eat.
Sebastian entertained Mia and the rest of her Year 2 class after producers on Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa radio show heard about her.
Mia’s mum Peta Murchison said her life expectancy is between eight and 12 years – and Mia will turn eight in July.
As reported in the Manly Daily , Mia’s mum Peta Murchison said her life expectancy is between eight and 12 years – and Mia will turn eight in July.
She said the pop star’s visit came out of the blue.
“The day before I had a random call (from someone) who has a personal connection with Guy, who said, ‘would you like Guy to come and sing for Mia?’,” she said.
“She loves music and my five-year-old Toby demands that we listen to Nova. He loves all the pop music and is often dancing around the house.
“The school were amazing and organised for it to happen. The kids all thought she looked really happy. They were all holding her hand.
“I was blown away. It was like being serenaded. It was just beautiful. (Sebastian) was just genuinely enjoying it. He taught the kids to sing back to him.”
Sebastian said to the class: “What an incredible school you go to. You guys are awesome.”
Michael “Wippa” Wipfli said they’d seen Mrs Murchison’s TEDx talk about her daughter’s devastating diagnosis at the Sydney Children’s Hospital.
It includes Mrs Murchison explaining what she’ll do when her daughter passes away and how one of the doctors cried as the family was given the diagnosis.
“We knew how important music was to Mia and wanted to brighten her day in any small way we could,” Wipfli said. “We were lucky to have the wonderful Guy Sebastian perform for Mia and her classmates.”
For National Batten Awareness Day on Friday, the Murchison family is asking the community to “jump up and down” for their Bounce4Batten campaign. Details: bounce4batten.com
