A multi-millionaire grocery king has submitted plans to build a plush oceanfront mansion in one of the most sought after addresses on Sydney’s northern beaches.
Robert Nugan, the boss of the Fresh Produce Group, plans on demolishing the current home on The Strand, Whale Beach, and building a luxury $2.5m pad just metres from the water’s edge.
Designed by Shaun Lockyer Architects, the stunning home is set over four levels.
The ground level features three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a plant room, outdoor shower and a laundry.
The next level up features a family/games room and a pool store.
The middle level features most of the living space.
There is a kitchen/open plan living and dining area along with a study and powder room.
There is also a balcony along with the outside swimming pool to the eastern side of the house.
On the top level is the master bedroom with a walk-in robe and ensuite.
There’s also a balcony, a “sunken courtyard” and a living space described in the plans as the “retreat”.
The proposal also includes works to the garden area, a gatehouse, garage and side access stairs.
Mr Nugan has made his millions through fresh food.
His family’s involvement in the industry goes back three generations to when they emigrated from Spain in 1940.
They set up a small fruit and vegetable packaging company in Griffith.
Mr Nugan started working for the family business, the Nugan Group, while still at school. He continued after graduating from university with a degree in international economics.
However, he decided to start his own business in 1991.
The Fresh Produce Group now employees hundreds and owns and co-owns farms across Australia.
Northern Beaches Council will decide on the application in the coming months.
