An elderly military veteran allegedly sexually touched a young girl while visiting Sydney from his home in Queensland.
George Lucas, 77, a former member of the Royal Australian Air Force, committed the alleged offences over a period of three years.
Mr Lucas, who lives in the Toowoomba suburb of Rangeville, about 125kms west of Brisbane, has been charged with two counts of intentionally sexually touch child (aged over 10 years and under 16 years).
His barrister Nathan Edridge told Manly Local Court on Wednesday that Mr Lucas would be making indicative pleas of not guilty to the charges, at this stage.
The court heard that the charges had been referred to the NSW Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which may decide to prosecute the case against Mr Lucas.
Mr Lucas, who is on bail, appeared before Magistrate Lisa Stapleton via a video link from a solicitor’s office in Toowoomba, on Queensland’s Darling Downs.
The court heard that he had lived in Toowoomba for the past 17 years.
Mr Edridge said his client was suffering with diabetes and serious lung problems including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and had pleural plaques after being exposed to asbestos while serving in the RAAF.
In documents tendered to court, police alleged that he sexually touched the alleged victim between June 1, 2021 and May 31, 2022.
It will also be alleged he sexually touched the same alleged victim between 8.30am and 11am on October 4, 2023.
Ms Stapleton continued Mr Lucas’ bail, which included a condition that he not be in the presence of children aged under 17 years.
The matters were adjourned for mention in Manly court on September 4.
