An amateur footballer who downed a few beers and a bourbon after a weekend match ended up scoring an own goal when he got picked up for drink driving after crashing his car.
George Hartley-Wilson, 27, of Mosman, was also penalised $20,000 in damage payouts when he pranged into a parked car while driving home from his local pub.
Hartley-Wilson, an unemployed business analyst, pleaded guilty to one count of mid-range drink driving.
His barrister Allan Goldsworthy told Manly Local Court on Wednesday that his client had knocked back five beers and a glass of spirits over several hours after the game.
Documents tendered to court list the drinks as two cans and three pints of beer along with one bourbon and coke between 3.15pm and 10.30pm.
He had most of the drinks at the Buena Vista Hotel in Mosman before he got behind the wheel.
Mr Goldsworthy also pointed out that as a result of Hartley-Wilson crashing his car into another vehicle, while over the legal alcohol limit, he was up for a large damage bill that was not covered by insurance.
His car sustained $10,000 in damage, and it would also cost another $10,000 to fix the Ford Ranger ute he struck with his car, the lawyer told Magistrate Robert Williams.
In a facts sheet tendered to court, police stated that on Saturday, August 5, Hartley-Wilson was driving on Muston St at Mosman, when his car hit the rear of the ute, sending his car into a 180-degree spin.
He was taken to North Sydney police station where he blew 0.127.
Magistrate Williams told him that the community was “greatly concerned” when it came to drink driving offences.
Mr Williams convicted Hartley-Wilson and disqualified him from driving for four months.
He was also fined $600.
