A $19m purpose-built cancer centre which can treat up to 24 patients an hour looks set to be approved in Frenchs Forest.
The private healthcare company GenesisCare is behind plans for the four level building with underground parking, just 600m from the new Northern Beaches Hospital.
It wants to build the medical centre in the last vacant spot in Forest Central Business Park at 49 Frenchs Forest East.
The plans have been recommended for approval by Northern Beaches Council despite some concerns over whether there are enough carparking spaces, increased traffic, construction noise, excessive excavation of soil and building height.
The North Sydney Planning Panel is due to make a decision on the proposal this week.
A previous DA lodged for the site was withdrawn in November last year, following the council’s concerns over a lack of carparking.
The new DA includes a four level basement car park with spaces for 75 cars.
The adjoining lot to the east at 39 Frenchs Forest Road East has been approved for a new hotel, Dan Murphy’s bottle shop, 100 room motel and 271 onsite parking spaces.
GenesisCare, which is also building a sister centre in St Leonard’s, said the development will provide employment for up to 37 medical staff and provide radiation oncology, medical oncology and support services for up to 156 patients a day.
It will also prevent people needing to travel outside the area for such medical treatments.
The annual incidence of cancer in the Northern Sydney Local Health District is projected to increase from 4968 in 2014 to 6,026 by 2024.
Frenchs Forest hs been earmarked as a new medical hub in Sydney.
Plans have also been submitted for a second private hospital on Tilley Lane.
