Images have emerged of a proposed new 149-room hotel development on the northern beaches.

The seven-storey Nightcap Plus, offering “affordable accommodation”, is planned for a site next to the The Forest Hotel pub at Frenchs Forest.

If approved by State Government planning officials, the $39 million development will be operated by ALH (Australian Leisure and Hospitality) Group, which owns more than 300 pubs. Its parent company is Endeavour Group, the retail and hospitality giant which has Dan Murphy’s and BWS as two of its brands.

ALH operate Nightcap and Nightcap Plus hotels at more than 40 locations across Australia including at the Narrabeen Sands Hotel as well as Pymble, Eastwood and Caringbah.

Its Narrabeen hotel is offering studio suites, sleeping up to three guests, from $175 per night.

Most of Nightcap hotels are close to one of ALH’s pubs.

The Nightcap Plus at Frenchs Forest will be next door to The Forest Hotel — which opened in December 2020 on the site of the now-demolished Parkway Hotel — and the massive Dan Murphy’s bottle shop on Frenchs Forest Rd East.

It will be built on the site of the old Skyline Drive-In, between the pub and Warringah Rd.

ALH boasts on social media that its Nightcap hotels were “dedicated to providing quality accommodation and excellent service at an affordable price”.

“Experience contemporary designed rooms, with premium King Koil beds, free 24/7 Wi-Fi, bars and restaurant dining.”

There will be parking for 202 cars at the Frenchs Forest Nightcap. A traffic consultant for the ALH suggested that it “would not have noticeable effects on the operation of the surrounding road network”.

The council has already received two submissions from locals supporting the proposal.

Evan Gauci wrote that the hotel would be popular and “make the area more liveable and more of a relevant suburb on the northern beaches where accommodation is in short supply”.

But Rebecca Tissington wrote that there was “little regard in this DA to deliver a visually appealing and fitting hotel”.

An Endeavour Group spokesman said that if approved, the hotel would provide an affordable, quality accommodation option to visitors to the area.

“At Endeavour Group, we are committed to engaging with local communities and the application process includes an opportunity for stakeholders and community members to submit feedback,” the spokesman said.

“As with all our applications, we will work constructively and collaboratively with all stakeholders throughout the process.”

Northern Beaches Council has the plans for the Frenchs Forest Nightcap open for public submissions until January 27.
