A man, who had previously worked for Premier Gladys Berejiklian, and now charged with historical child sex offences after allegedly abusing a boy and girl under his care, was granted continuing bail in court on Wednesday.
Police will allege the 41-year-old man, who cannot be named as he was a juvenile at the time of the offences, abused two children between 1994 and 1996.
He did not appear in Manly Local Court, but his solicitor sent an email asking that a brief of evidence be served on his client.
The man was arrested at the Manly Police Station on November 3 after a four-year investigation by Northern Beaches police.
Detectives launched an investigation in 2016 after receiving reports the man had allegedly sexually abused a girl and boy known to him while in his care.
He was charged with three counts of aggravated indecency against a victim under 16 and under his authority, two counts of sexual intercourse with a person aged 10 to 16 under his authority, and one count of attempted sexual assault with a person aged 10 to 14 under his authority.
“Police will allege in court that the man sexually and indecently assaulted a boy and a girl – aged between eight and 10 – while they were in his care,” police said in a statement to media last month.
The man moved to a private consulting firm after working for the Premier
It is understood the man did not work for the Liberal Party directly during his tenure in ministerial offices.
The Registrar at Manly Local Court ordered a brief of evidence be served on the man by January 28.
He was granted continued conditional bail to appear at Manly Local Court on February 11 next year.
