THE HSC began without too many nasty surprises. That’s the verdict students from Stella Maris College gave after their first HSC exam.
Ali Godbier, 18, and Grace Kendall, 17, came out of their Advanced English exam at the Manly school’s Benedict Campus quietly confident.
“It was achievable, we have done all the area of study on Discovery and practised since the end of year 10,” Ali Godbier said.
“The generic essay question was a double-edged question and I found that tough.”
Both students said that the weather over the weekend leading up to the exams had kept them at home revising.
“There weren’t too many distractions,” Grace Kendall said.
“Doing that first exam is always hard.”
It’s back-to-back English for 60,000 students, who will sit their second exam today.
Education Minister Rob Stokes said that study-life balance was important for students.
“While this is the last leg of your 13-year school journey, remember at the end of the day it’s just an exam,” he said.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the HSC, with 70,000 students enrolled for exams across NSW.
Week one sees language exams including Armenian, Indonesian and Japanese extension, as well as modern history and PDHPE.
The 117 written exams will finish on November, 7. Results will be sent out via SMS and email from 6am on December, 14.
