Dave Peach dies of pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed three weeks before

A popular radio host and charity fundraiser has died just three weeks after being diagnosed with cancer, as colleagues pay tribute to him.

Pancreatic cancer probably going to top ‘terrible leaderboard’ for ‘biggest cancer killer’

Tributes are flowing for community radio volunteer and charity supporter David Peach who died just three weeks after being told he had cancer.

The 59-year-old, who was involved in three programs on Radio Northern Beaches between 2012 and 2020, was also a former CEO of Black Dog Ride, a charity raising funds for mental health.

Andrew Goodman-Jones, chairman and director of the radio station, said Mr Peach’s death had been a shock.

“It’s been hard to comprehend,” he said.

“He was told by a doctor he had pancreatic cancer and that it was inoperable.

“They said he had about four weeks to live – in the end it was just three.

“It’s all made us realise that life is short. He was only 59.

“As they say, it is always the good ones that go early.”

Mr Goodman-Jones said Mr Peach’s first show was a program helping people with their IT problems.

He also hosted a show about classic cars and bikes and later one on small businesses.

As well as being on air he was instrumental in helping to re-fit the studios in Terrey Hills and was always available to help set up and take down equipment for outside broadcasts.

“He was always someone that would be there helping,” Mr Goodman-Jones said.

“He would take responsibility for things.

“Everyone is a volunteer at the radio station and he would be someone who would get on with things.

“He also had a unique way of solving problems.”

Mr Goodman-Jones said outside work and volunteering Mr Peach loved motorcycling.

He also had a partner, Victoria, and adult children.

Recently, he had moved to Tasmania.
