A former senior executive at a Sydney-based international property company is negotiating with police over allegations he dishonestly obtained more than $720,000, a court has heard.
Investigating officers allege Daniel Roy Walker, 37, who was a long-serving manager at Colliers International, took the money from the firm by “fraudulently altering bank details”.
Walker, 37, of Surry Hills, was arrested in May last year and originally charged with two counts of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception.
He was granted police bail and made his first appearance in Manly Local Court on July 6 last year.
On March 28 this year, the court heard the number of Walker’s charges had grown to eight counts of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception, with the amount allegedly swindled totalling $720,811.84.
Walker again fronted court on May 9, when he confirmed his not guilty pleas to all eight charges and a hearing was set down for July 18.
The hearing did not go ahead.
On Thursday, the court heard police were withdrawing seven of the eight charges and the allegations would be consolidating into one charge.
Magistrate Lisa Stapleton was told representations were being made to police in relation to the facts surrounding the alleged offending.
Walker has not entered any new pleas.
In documents previously tendered to court, police alleged the offending occurred between January 2021 and March 2023.
After Walker’s arrest, Colliers International chief executive officer Malcolm Tyson distributed an internal email to staff to advise that the allegation concerned “serious financial misconduct”.
The Australian newspaper reported in June last year that Mr Tyson alleged, in the staff email, that charges against an executive “related to actions in breach of laws governing property professionals and Colliers’ corporate policies”.
Walker is due back in Manly court on October 3.
