The votes are in and tallied and now The Manly Daily can reveal the winner of the best personal trainer on the northern beaches for 2023.
But the quest to find out the area’s best fitness guru, motivating plenty of dedicated fitness-conscious people, was a close one.
Two local PTs, Reuben Enoka and Crystal Maguire, who co-founded their popular Just Train business based in Cromer and Dee Why, have been crowned equal winners.
Following a call-out on Facebook where we were overwhelmed with responses, the nominations then went out for people to vote and again we had a plethora of people wanting to tell us about how their Reuben and Crystal had changed their lives.
One reader messaged us that they were “both amazing trainers”.
Another wrote that were “Great trainers. Great people”.
“Crystal and Reuben put my boys through their paces every Thursday night. They love the challenge and are definitely getting fitter and faster,” one mum wrote.
Crystal, who represented Australia and NSW — not to mention the Warringah Ratettes — in rugby union, started the business with her fiance Reuben three years go after they both had stellar sporting careers.
Reuben represented New Zealand in touch football and played 7s Rugby, and rugby league, for the Cook Islands and was a standout player for the Cromer Kingfishers in the local A-Grade league competition.
Just Train offers outdoor one-on-one personal training as well as group boot camps and speed and agility training and have a number of children, aged from eight years, and families as clients.
“While we were playing, we were both doing bootcamps, personal training an classes,” Reuben said.
“When Covid hit we thought we might as well take it outdoors, and that's how we started.”
Crystal said that with their own sporting backgrounds, they were keen to help younger generations excel in their chosen sports too.
“We want to help them achieve bigger goals, down the track.
“And some people just want to learn how to get fit, through the basics, and have more confidence in themselves.”
