COVID-19: Sydney Cricket Association cancels all fixtures, new dates for T20 Cup

Sydney’s summer of cricket is the latest victim of the growing northern beaches COVID-19 cluster, with Sydney Cricket Association cancelling fixtures for at least the next fortnight.

The Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup Conference Finals have also be postponed until January 10 with a new date for the T20 Cup Final of January 26.

An email circulated to all clubs by Cricket NSW revealed the decision had been made following advice from Cricket Australia’s chief medical officer Dr John Orchard.

The NSW Premier Cricket’s fixtures in the men’s, women’s and Shires competitions scheduled for this weekend have been cancelled.

This Sunday Gordon was due to play UNSW in the Sixers Conference Final and Bankstown was playing Parramatta in the Sydney Thunder Conference.

These matches will now be played on January 10 with livestreaming details on www.dailytelegraph to be advised close to the games.

The Sydney Cricket Association is exploring options to also reschedule AW Green Shield matches.

“The Sydney Cricket Associations’s committee of management has made these tough decisions in the interest of the welfare of all players, umpires and club volunteers,” the email stated.

“The committee trusts that you will understand.”
