Council ranger at Manly allegedly spat at by man near beach

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a Sydney council ranger was allegedly spat at.

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an alleged assault of a council ranger at Manly on Saturday afternoon.

The man allegedly spat at the ranger, who was patrolling North Steyne with a colleague about 4.10pm and had just placed a parking ticket on a car.

It is not known if the man was the owner of the car that had been booked.

The alleged offender then ran north along the beach, chased by lifesavers, and was eventually caught by lifesavers and lifeguards, who and detained until the police arrived.

Northern Beaches Council general manager Mark Ferguson said the safety and wellbeing of the community and council staff was paramount. and that any aggressive or violent behaviour will be dealt with through the appropriate channel.

Northern Beaches duty officer Inspector Jason Reimer said police were continuing to investigate and urged anyone who saw the incident to call Dee Why police on 9971 3399 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
