CHANGED parking conditions will be implemented in Collaroy in conjunction with proposed clearways in Pittwater Rd between the shops at Fielding St and Lismore Ave at Dee Why.
The council carpark conditions will include introduction of 4P parking in the playground carpark and 2P parking at 32 spaces in the southern end of the northern Collaroy Beach commuter carpark.
Another 82 parking spaces will be available for 12 hours for commuter parking in the north section.
The middle carpark — to the south of The Beach Club — would have 1P parking for seven parking spaces every day and three loading zones. The Collaroy St council carpark would have 1P parking applied to 18 parking spaces every day.
These changes will not alter the number of disabled car-parking spaces nor dedicated surf club car parking.
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) wants feedback on the clearway changes, which a spokesman said would result in a smoother trip for drivers and bus passengers.
“Pittwater Rd is the main corridor connecting the northern beaches to the Sydney CBD, carrying more than 60,000 vehicles each day, with road users including bus customers, experiencing delays and congestion in both directions,” the spokesman said.
“The new clearways are proposed to operate in both directions, from 6am to 7pm on weekdays and from 9am to 6pm on weekends.”
He said proposed clearways would help ease congestion, improve journey reliability and improve safety for road users.
“A single parked car can significantly reduce road capacity and cause major delays on busy road corridors so it is important to ensure all lanes are available to improve journey reliability,” he said.
The RMS and Northern Beaches Council are working on parking solutions for businesses who rely on street parking.
The council has called for feedback and, with the RMS, will operate information booths in Collaroy.
The RMS and council staff will be at the Collaroy Beach Playground on Thursday from 4pm-7pm and next Sunday from 10am-1pm. They will also be there on November 1 from 4pm-7pm.
