“Unleash your inner Viking”.
That’s the catchcry for a new entertainment venue featuring axe throwing that’s set to open on the northern beaches.
Kiss My Axe is now fitting out an industrial site in Winbourne Rd at Brookvale where it will combine the traditional lumberjack sport of hurling razor sharp steel axes at targets and bullseyes, with having a fun day or night out.
This will be the second outlet for the business that began in 2019 at inner-city Alexandria.
It was set up by British ex-pats Ian Williams and Jason Macdonald, who both have a liking for action-packed sports.
They put their heads together and started their “urban indoor axe throwing” business.
Customers can book packages ranging for corporate team building events and work Christmas parties through to midweek “date nights” for couples looking for something a little different to do.
They will also take bookings for Bucks, Hens and birthday parties, but the 40 Winbourne Rd venue is still waiting on its liquor licence to be granted.
It reminds customers, however that it is “surrounded by heaps of pubs and breweries” including Chubb’s Bar next door.
A large group session — with a minimum of eight throwers — goes for about two hours and costs $60 per person. Smaller group cab book for an hour at $50 per person,
People must be 15 years and over to be able to join in the axe throwing. Doors will be open seven days a week until 11pm.
Kiss My Axe will even be setting up axe throwing leagues for those with a competitive streak.
Kiss My Axe marketing manager, Elisha Cowan, said on Friday that its axe throwing was not the same as the traditional blokey lumberjack sport that originated in Canada.
“We cater for all sorts of people,” Ms Cowan said.
“We bring a sort of different feel, a street style.
“There’s a lot of great Hip Hop and R&B beats going on while you’re slinging the steel.
“It gives people something different to do than just going to the movies or chilling at the beach,” she said.
Ms Cowan confirmed the venue is already taking online bookings, starting from Friday, November 26.
“We’re getting a lot interest on the northern beaches already for Christmas parties.”
She also reminded, locals that Kiss My Axe accepts the NSW Government’s Dine and Discover hospitality and entertainment vouchers.
