A boy who was knocked out while playing by himself on a northern beaches’ backyard trampoline is in hospital with life threatening injuries.
The boy, 11, suffered a shocking head injury when jumping on the trampoline at a home at Davidson, just after 2pm on Sunday.
Neighbours told the media that his parents had not seen him for about 20 minutes before they found him unconscious.
It is understood his family thought he had been playing a computer game inside the house in Craig Pl while the family celebrated Father’s Day.
After a triple-0 call, four ambulance crews and the CareFlight rapid response helicopter, with a specialist doctor on-board, were sent to the scene.
The helicopter landed on Frenchs Forest Showground before the medical crew was driven by police to the house about 1.5kms away.
A CareFlight spokesman said the boy was initially treated by ambulance paramedics and had regained consciousness.
“CareFlight’s specialist doctor and a NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic provided further treatment for the child’s head injuries, intubating the boy and placing him in an induced coma to stabilise his condition,” the spokesman said.
The boy was taken by ambulance to the helicopter and flown to the Children’s Hospital, Westmead, while having ongoing treatment from the CareFlight’s medical team.
A spokeswoman for the hospital said this afternoon that the boy was still in a critical, but stable condition.
