Bones believed to be a skull have been found at a house demolition site in a quiet northern beaches street.

Police from Northern Beaches Local Area Command were called to the construction site near North Harbour Reserve, in Balgowlah, at 11.30am today.

Neighbours said a skull had been found, but police would not confirm only saying they had found bones.

The 530 sqm site with water views has been totally demolished and it is thought the remains were found during excavation work.

A spokesman for NSW police said the bones found at the premises were being sent for forensic examination “to determine if they are human” and if so to determine the identify of the remains.

Police have cordoned off the home in North Harbour St and there is police car stationed in the street.
