A string of shocking late-night rock attacks on the popular double-decker B-Line bus service has prompted Northern Beaches Police to issue a plea to the public.
The driver of one bus was injured when his face was showered in shattered glass after a rock smashed through a windscreen early last Saturday morning.
It was travelling at 80km/h, with just one passenger on board, at the time.
Police believe the projectile was thrown from the Kitchener St road bridge, over the Burnt Bridge Creek Deviation at Balgowlah, as the bus headed south about 1.50am.
The driver, 57, was able to bring the bus to a halt. NSW Ambulance paramedics later treated him for cuts to his eye.
Police ruled out the possibility the rock was flicked up by another vehicle, given there were no other vehicles on the two-lane road at the time.
Officers conducted extensive patrols of the area, including the Kitchener St overpass, but did not find anyone.
The rock was recovered from inside the bus and seized by police for forensic examination.
The incident marked the third time in just three days that B-Line buses had been damaged by rock throwers at the same location.
Projectiles struck two other northbound buses at 11.42pm on Thursday, November 7, and at 1.30am on Friday, November 8.
The culprits would face a maximum penalty of five years behind bars if caught and charged with throwing rocks and other objects at vehicles and vessels.
As investigations continue, police are urging anyone with information, including dashcam footage or CCTV, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
