A driver high on “ice”, who was convicted of leading police on a wild high-speed chase on the northern beaches, is on the run after failing to turn up to court.
Cops ended up drawing their guns to arrest Beau Osborne-Bradley, who was behind the wheel of a Nissan Pulsar that rocketed through Manly at more than 70km/h above the speed limit.
The unemployed 26-year-old from Haymarket, who has never had a drivers licence, was meant to front Manly Local Court on Wednesday morning to face four charges linked to the police pursuit that started about 3am on August 31.
He was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously; drive speed manner dangerous; not obey direction of police and: never licensed person. But by 2.15pm he had not turned up.
Osborne-Bradley was also charged with breaching his bail conditions by failing to report to Redfern police station.
Magistrate Michelle Goodwin found him guilty, in his absence, of all charges and ordered that an arrest warrant be issued to bring Osborne-Bradley to court to be sentenced.
In a facts sheet tendered to court police said the Nissan, with four men on board, was first spotted in Roger St, Brookvale at 2.55am.
The police caged van turned on its lights and sirens in an effort to stop the car, but it sped off and turned right into Pittwater Rd, crossing on to the wrong side of the road before the police lost sight of it.
At 3am a patrol car saw the Nissan heading south along Pittwater Rd at Manly. Again police tuned on lights and sirens before the car turned into Eurobin Ave. With police in pursuit the Nissan then turned into Collingwood St on the wrong side of the road before turning right into North Steyne.
Police said the car was then doing 103km/h in a 30km/h zone on the wrong side of the road and bouncing over numerous speed bumps with sparks shooting from its undercarriage.
The car sped through a red light at the corner of North Steyne and The Corso before turning right into Victoria Pde.
Police halted the chase for safety reasons just before the car turned right into East Esplanade.
At 3.05am the Nissan was spotted by police travelling west towards West Esplanade, where the chase began again.
The Nissan was followed along Commonwealth Pde, The Crescent and Margaret St at Fairlight before stopping abruptly in Fairlight St.
Police said all four men ran from the car.
“Police alighted from their vehicle,” the facts sheet said, “and drew their firearms and ordered all four persons to the ground.”
Officers said Osborne-Bradley jump from the driver’s seat.
The facts sheet said he admitted that he had never held a licence.
He also said all four men had been using “ice”.
Osborne-Bradley appeared in Manly Local Court on August 31 and was given strict conditional bail.
