HOMICIDE Squad detectives are assisting in the investigation into the discovery of a badly decomposed body on Sydney’s North Head.
The body, possibly that of a woman, was found on Thursday last week, but police have just released details of the grim find.
Police said the body was discovered by a fisherman at the bottom of a cliff, just below the Fairfax Track, just of Scenic Drive.
The angler notified authorities and a retrieval operation began, involving officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command, PolAir and Police Rescue officers.
Police believe the body was at the location for some time, possibly months, and remains unidentified.
A post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
At this stage, there are no indications as to whether the death is suspicious.
