More than a dozen residents on the northern beaches are believed to have lost thousands of dollars after a granny flat business went into liquidation.

Avalon Homes Group Pty Ltd, which traded under the name of Avalon Granny Flats, went into liquidation on February 14.

Leah Boonthanom, 44, of North Narrabeen, said there were customers in Queensland who had allegedly lost six figure sums.

She said she knew of around a dozen people on the peninsula who had paid upfront with some not even a hole in the ground to show for it.

The mum of two said she had set up a Facebook group and had been contacted by people from NSW and Queensland.

She said locally there were customers in Balgowlah, Clontarf, Newport, Avalon, Narrabeen, North Narrabeen, Beacon Hill, Killarney Heights, Wheeler Heights and Seaforth.

“We think there are others out there and want them to know so they can register their losses,” Ms Boonthanom said.

“I was one of the lucky ones who finally got my build finished after great effort and distress.

“I can’t simply sit back now and not support the many others who fell victim and now don’t have anything to show.

“In some cases they’ve lost more than $100,000.”

Ms Boonthanom said the company was actually based on the Sunshine Coast but she believes many signed up believing it was a local company because of the name.

She said she had been promised a 12-week build and was asked to pay $69,000 upfront.

It took 16 months with constant delays, problems with the supply of materials and alleged building defects that needed fixing.

The Sunshine Coast branch of Worrells is the accountants dealing with the liquidation.

Ms Boonthanom urged anyone who had lost money to contact them on 07 5459 1000.
